The Role

Depending on the skills and experience of the individual, duties will include:

  •  Keep up to date with the latest regulatory regime in various markets regarding the issuance and acceptance of connection agreements;
  • Review and understand proposed policy changes with regard to grid regulations and impact on the wind industry ;
  • Develop good working relationships with the various decision makers within the relevant utilities and regulatory bodies;
  • Learn and understand regulatory aspects of other markets as and when Wind Prospect works in them;
  • Undertake technical and regulatory reviews of grid connections for projects at different stages of development in the above countries;
  • Undertake reviews of wind turbine compliance with connection conditions;
  • Undertake detailed technical and commercial reviews of electrical construction contracts for wind farms;
  • Undertake feasibility studies for possible grid connection options;
  • Undertake technical and commercial reviews of electrical construction contracts for wind farms;
  •  Assist with turbine supply contract specification and review;
  • Provide technical, commercial and regulatory assistance to other Wind Prospect business streams as requested during wind farm project inception, development, construction and operation;
  • Prepare and submit connection applications.
  • Develop and maintain good relationships with key clients;
  • Meeting with clients to discuss grid connection options and methodologies for wind farm projects in the development stage;
  • Developing business contacts and opportunities for Wind Prospect in South Africa;
  • Seeking opportunities to submit tenders for work in South Africa on behalf of Wind Prospect.

The Candidate

Electrical engineer educated to Bachelor’s degree level or higher;

  • 8-9 year’s relevant experience
  • Knowledge and understanding of grid regulation in South Africa;
  • Have a detailed understanding of the grid code and distribution code in South Africa and be able to transpose this understanding to other countries;
  • Have a detailed understanding of the technical requirements for wind power projects operating on the distribution & transmission systems in South Africa;
  • Experience in electrical design and electrical construction contracts for wind farms;
  • Knowledge of turbine technology;
  • Understanding of wind farm development pre-construction, construction and operation;
  • Excellent communication, report writing and interpersonal skills;
  • Organised, thorough and diligent;
  • Fluency in multiple languages would also be advantageous;
  • Willingness to travel
  • Full driving licence.
