The Role
|
|
The Wind Prospect Civil Engineering Services Team is seeking an enthusiastic, self-motivated individual with a civil engineering degree to assist with the design and construction supervision of onshore wind farms within South Africa – to be based in Cape Town.
The role is to provide civil, structural and geotechnical support to Clients, undertaking detailed design and technical advice during all phases of a wind farms lifespan. You will be required to coordinate and lead design elements, undertake site inspections and manage interfaces with statutory authorities, members of the project team and other specialists and consultants. Reporting to the General Manager, Civil Engineering Services, the candidate will be based in Cape Town.
DUTIES WOULD INCLUDE:
- The design and documentation of civil, structural and geotechnical components of the projects, including but not limited to, drainage works, turbine foundations, buildings, civil infrastructure and structures.
- Provide design and construction documentation as required by the project, including conducting site surveys and inspections.
- Carry out client liaison and coordination, including reporting of progress and project costs.
- Project management of the tasks and deliverables required to be delivered as part of design packages during preconstruction and construction stage.
- Conduct technical inspections of structures, formations and other civil / structural elements of a project as required.
- Conduct the design and supervision of civil or structural remedial works as demanded by a project.
- Assist construction project managers and site supervision staff in evaluating others designs and construction methods during construction.

The Candidate
|
- Accredited degree in Civil Engineering
- Good project management skills including organisational and diligent skills.
- Good communication, report writing and interpersonal skills.
- Experience in design of civil, structural or geotechnical elements to Eurocodes and best practice would be beneficial.
- Practical site experience at construction or geotechnical investigation stage would be beneficial.
- Computer literate with Microsoft Office, Microsoft Project and other specialist computer packages (AutoCAD, Workspace, CRM’s, etc).
- Full SA driving licence as extensive travel throughout SA will be required.
- Possess a SA work permit/Citizenship
- Further education or second degree in a construction / engineering related discipline would be beneficial
- Membership of ICE would be beneficial
