Here are some of the most commonly asked questions about Wind Direct.
This section provides brief answers, but if you would like to know more
about any aspect of Wind Direct feel free to Contact Us.
There is no capital outlay required, as Wind Direct will pay for all the planning, capital and construction costs. All the company needs to do is provide technical support to our engineers.
Would a wind turbine on site result in CCL
exemption?
Yes, electricity production from wind turbines is exempt from the Climate Change Levy.
What happens to the ROCs produced?
They are sold to an electricity supplier to meet their renewables obligation. The money from the sale of the ROCs is used to recoup the capital outlay provided by Wind Direct.
Can the turbine be located anywhere on our site?
The placement of turbines upon a site may be limited by factors such as proximity to nearby housing and fixed microwave links which we look to avoid. If you have a large car park on site, chances are we could put a turbine there. A turbine tower generally has to be 50m from the land boundary. The foundation footprint of 15m x 15m is only required during construction - once the turbine has been erected, only the tower section takes up space (about 5m diameter).
What size turbines are available under the Wind Direct scheme?
We use turbines ranging from second hand Vestas V27 (225kW / 30m tower and 27m diameter blades) to a REpower MM92 or similar machine (2MW / 80m tower and 92m diameter blades). Those are just two examples and we are not affiliated to any particular turbine manufacturer, but looking to get the most appropriate turbine for the site.
What happens when the wind stops blowing?
Your supply switches back to the normal Grid supply. There is a seamless transition between the turbine supply and the grid supply, ensuring no voltage problems occur to disrupt plant operation.
Will our brown electricity price increase because we would no longer be drawing a guaranteed steady demand?
Previous projects suggest that the brown electricity supplier looks favorably upon the development as they are able to benefit from the purchase of the renewable obligation certificates.
What are the timescales of a Wind Direct development?
As soon as we have agreed to the project, a turbine should be up and running within 12-18 months. This is dependant upon a successful planning application and turbine acquisition.
What happens at the end of the contract?
Wind Direct will dismantle and remove the turbine(s), restoring your land to its original condition.
