15/03/2010 Wales’ environment minister Jane Davidson has officially opened two wind turbines developed, constructed and now operated by Wind Direct at the site of Solutia Chemicals, Newport.
The Wind Direct project, which is the largest of its kind in Wales, was also fittingly chosen as the background to the launch of the Welsh Assembly Government’s Energy Policy Statement - A Low Carbon Revolution.
The two Nordex N90 2.5MW wind turbines will supply up to a third of the facility’s electricity requirements; aligning closely with the Welsh Assembly’s vision of a low carbon future.
Wind Direct works with high energy users located on industrial and commercial sites throughout the UK. The company is able to supply clean green energy from wind generated on-site – without any capital expenditure from the client.
Frances Karki, Chief Operating Officer for Wind Direct said:

These two wind turbines on an industrial site in Newport are a clear, physical symbol of UK industry’s commitment to tackling climate change.”
Wind Direct specialises in the installation of one or two wind turbines per site and now has more than 150 active projects of similar size in its development pipeline.
HgCapital, one of Europe’s largest and most experienced renewable energy investors, has worked closely with Wind Direct in recent years and provided funding for the Solutia project. Robert de Laszlo, Assistant Director in HgCapital’s Renewables team commented:
