Foundations Complete at FMC

07/07/2011

Construction of Wind Direct's 1.5MW wind turbine at FMC Technologies is on track and progressing well. It is now just two months since the project entered the build phase at the site in Dunfermline, Fife.

Foundations have been laid and all civil works are expected to be completed next week. A four week curing period will then ensue before electrical works begin next month. Milestones to date include service diversion work, cable duct installation, excavation works, steel reinforcement fixing and concrete pour.

Construction Project Manager, Peter Hetherington said:

‘’The construction phase has gone very well so far. Talks are underway with FMC to coordinate the electrical connection of the new turbine to the existing infrastructure to minimise loss of production time in the factory.’’

Energisation of the 100-metre-high wind turbine is scheduled for October and once fully operational could potentially generate up to 40% of the facility’s electricity supply.

The wind turbine is one of many ways in which FMC Technologies is trying to minimize its impact on the environment. The company has remarkable achievements in sustainability and set itself ambitious environmental targets.
