FMC Technologies is a leading global provider of technology solutions for the oil and gas industry.

Headquartered in Houston, Texas and employing over 650 people at their Dunfermline operation in Fife, the company’s core product range includes subsea Christmas trees, wellheads and tubing hangers; equipment used to assist in the extraction of oil and gas subsea.

Over 85% of products are exported, mostly to Europe, Africa and Norway through major customers such as BP, StatoilHydro, Shell and Total.

In December 2011 they were presented with the award for Contribution to Sustainable Development at the Scottish Green Energy Awards, organised by Scottish Renewables. They were also named by FORTUNE Magazine as the World's Most Admired Oil and Gas Equipment, Service Company in 2010 and have been awarded the Fife Business Award for Success Through Sustainability.

The Wind Direct single turbine project at the site in Dunfermline, Fife is a further demonstration of FMC Technologies’ desire to reduce their carbon footprint and impact on the environment.

About the Project

The turbine was successfully installed on 12th October 2011, then officially energised on 7th December 2011 at a ceremonial plaque unveiling at the site, where FMC were joined by members of Fife Council, Green Business Fife and Wind Direct.

Fife Council granted the project full planning permission in December 2009 following the submission of a planning application in February of the same year.

The completion of the 1.5MW turbine follows four years of extensive planning and could supply up to 40% of FMC Technologies' electricity needs. The turbine also has the potential to  reduce the company's carbon emissions by over 2,000 tonnes per annum.

This pioneering environmental project is a first for FMC.
