About The Humphrey Group
The Humphrey Group was started in the early 70s when Roy Humphrey purchased a village garage in Yaxley near Eye. Roy extended the range of services he offered with a vision to build a complex catering for all transport needs and the company now occupies a 31 acre site at the Airfield Industrial estate. With a high cumulative energy usage across the estate and over 150 people employed at the site, the Humphrey Group project is ideally placed to benefit from onsite generation.
About the Project
Following 18 months of careful preparation and consultation Wind Direct received planning permission for two 2.5MW Nordex N100 turbines in August 2010. The granting of planning permission for the Roy Humphrey Group project contributed towards Suffolk's aim of becoming the country's greenest county, by supplying sufficient energy to power the equivalent of 2,800 homes.
John Dupre, project manager for Wind Direct said:
"This is great news for the Roy Humphrey Group and for the county of Suffolk in general. We are very appreciative of the support that the local community has shown for the scheme."
Financial close was achieved on the project in March 2012. A turbine supply agreement was signed with Nordex and sale of the project to Triodos Renewables with funding from Triodos Bank. Foundation work is now complete at the Eye Airfield Industrial Estate with turbine delivery and installation set to take place in January 2013.
Community Benefits
In addition to the green benefits, the scheme will also provide £5000 per year towards community projects. The fund will be available once the turbines begin generating and will be administered through Mid Suffolk District Council.
