About Kinegar Quarries Ltd.

Kinegar Quarries is a family owned business which has been operating since 1987 extracting and processing aggregates for the local markets. The quarries have at all times been operated in an efficient manner, preventing unnecessary wastage or sterilisation of resources.

Kinegar Quarries is fully committed to health, safety and the environment. The company takes a sustainable approach in maximising the high quality mineral resource contained under the lands worked by the company and carrying out imaginative and productive restoration.

About the Project

Wind Direct is proposing to develop a wind energy scheme consisting of two 2.5MW wind turbines with tip heights of 110m, which would provide a clean, green source of renewable energy to be used in Kinegar Quarries' operations.

The proposed wind energy scheme is a further demonstration of the company's desire to minimise their impact on the environment by replacing their current diesel powered generating system with a cleaner more efficient renewable energy source of power.

The Kinegar Quarry Wind Energy Scheme is proposed to be installed on land owned by the quarry. This green initiative will not only benefit the environment, but will bring vital long-term price stability and security of electricity supply to the company with the added benefit of reducing its carbon footprint.

Project Status

The project was granted planning consent on 18 February 2013.
